White Rock Marathon

Below is a message from the marathoners in the family, Uncle E and Conrad:

"Hello Everybody!!! Well it is nearly October, and that means it is time to begin training for the inaugural 'Families ROC' White Rock Dallas Marathon/Half Marathon. Brenda (heretofore known as Nana) has begun her training program for the 13.1 mile event on December 11th 2005. This event is a no pressure celebration of life, family, and friends, and we would really like you to commit to joining us in Dallas as Nana completes her triumphant half marathon. Even if a flight of stairs has you gasping, or you have never run a step in your life, we have a plan to help you complete the 13.1 or the 26.2 mile race. We want to know how we can help you with your goal; so please email us and tell us the distance you plan to run/walk, if you have a specific goal pace, and your fitness level. We can customize a training plan for you, send you great workout mixes, and just keep you motivated and happy!!!! If you think that you cannot cover 13.1 miles or even a marathon, think again. This is a celebration of the human spirit overcoming the limitations of the physical body. Together, we can do it! The best news is that your new training plan began yesterday with a day of rest!!! We look forward to hearing from you!! Conrad and Eric"

Here is the web-site for the Marathon in Dallas, so you can do some research and get excited: http://www.runtherock.com/

And Uncle E's e-mail address is: jorgy3@aol.com. Conrad's is: cwildsmith@mac.com.

White Rock Marathon
We have created a website for FamiliesROC the address is www.familiesroc.com. The sight is not ready yey but Uncle Eric and I expect to have it ready by the end of the week.

Often, the training for a marathon is more difficult than the actual race. It is challenging after a long day or a late night to muster up the courage, to suffer the heat, or bear the cold and run. This should give us some appreciation for the courage, energy, and optimism required to fight for a life.

I am running for Nana....

Ok. Didn't realize that. This is a free blog and is very easy to manipulate and delete, for that matter.

Guys, when you sign on to blogger.com, look at the "Google Ad Sense" program on the right hand side of the screen. Whether we do it on this site or on familiesroc.com, we may be able to generate some revenue that way. We can also set up PayPal, I think. Not sure how to do that, but it can't be that hard.

i don't see that google ad sense thing you are talking about? and the marathon thing i think would be doable, but incredibly painful for you. i like your enthusiasm, and for that you get the spirit award.. hahaha, just kidding, anyway, to be honest with you i have not been training like i should be, it is really difficult to get home at night and get out on the road. i would imaginee it would be 2 times as hard for you with the newborn around there. i think you could do it, but not only would it be hard physically, but difficult timewise too. 3.5-4 months is usually the training time for a marathon. if you think you can do it just work up to 18-20 miles 3 weeks before the race. then you would be fine, (assuming that you would run 4-6 miles a day 3-4 days a week in addition to the long runs.)
haha, good luck. also an idea for revenue would be corporate sponsorships. create a value reward system for companies to be donators to our org. this is something that must be done when we have a bit more narrow focus and handle on what we want to do, and exactly how we are going to do it.
back to work for me.

E- I guarantee you that I can get Jones Day to be a corporate sponsor. Not now though. The firm has made Hurricane relief (for Katrina and Rita) a high priority. We're donating money, sponsoring two displaced families from New Orleans, and providing office space for lawyers from New Orleans and Houston. All this while doing the annual United Way fundraising drive.

I can probably get some clients, like Verizon and Bridgestone/Firestone, to be sponsors as well.

As far as the marathon training goes, it's probably best to work toward the Austin marathon in February. Interested?

Also, on the AdSense program. Go to http://www.blogger.com. Type in your username and password. Then, on the right hand side of the screen, scroll down until you see a box that says:

"Did you know that you can turn your blog into a source of revenue with the Google AdSense program?

Would you like to sign up? Yes, please."

Have articles of organization for Families R.O.C. already been filed? Is it officially set up yet? Is there a bank acount, etc.?

If not, I'll get moving on that pronto.

I am working on the website at familiesroc.com. What I need from everyone is content. I need articles and links and other stuff to put on the website. If you have good pictures send them to me. If you have any ideas about revenue generation or motivating people to join, I would love to hear them too. I would like to move all of this to one main site, so i am figuring out how to add a blog to the familiesroc.com website. Thanks for all the help and enthusiasm.
Brian, You can do a marathon with only 10 weeks of training. It is the monday after the race when you pay.
